11th OBT to start from May 13 in Kohima


Kohima, April 6: The 11th Open Basketball Tournament, a premier night sporting event organized by Suncity Kohima in association with Nagaland Basketball Association will be held from May 13 to 19 at Kohima Local Ground.
Announcing this during a press conference here at Hungry Me restaurant, Suncity president Medozhazo Rutsa informed that the tournament will be ‘plastic free’.
The tournament, he said will be held in league system and the expectation is to have around 20 purely local teams around the state.
Entry forms will be made available from April 12 onwards at Light House, Fancy Market Kohima and Suncity office, P. Khel, Kohima village. Entry fee has been fixed at Rs 10,000 per team, he said.
The champion will win as cash prize of Rs. 60,000 while the runner-up will pocket Rs. 30,000 losing semi finalists will receive Rs. 10,000 each. The most valuable player of the tournament will also get Rs 10,000.
The match will be officiated by referees from Basketball Federation of India (BFI) as per FIBA guidelines.
Suncity will also be providing a platform for the upcoming local artists during the tourney, he said and for which interested artists have been asked to contact the organizers at 9436000222 and 8732896363.
Meanwhile, Suncity also announced that a clinic for basketball referees and coaches will be held from April 26 to 28 at Christ King School, Kohima village by the officials from Basketball Federation of India.
