
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 4: Dimapur police on January 22 last arrested one person involved in racket of issuing fake COVID-19 test report to Manipur bound passengers from Dimapur.
Police identified the arrested person as one Mohammad Samung (39), a resident of Blue Hill Station, IMA travels, Dimapur.
Two fake COVID-19 test report issued from Lahorijan, Assam was recovered from his possession.
Police said a Dimapur police team on surveillance duty received information from reliable source that fake COVID-19 test reports are being issued to passengers travelling to Manipur from Blue Hill bus station area on payment basis on January 22, following which a police team was covertly sent disguised as passengers in need of negative COVID-19 test report.
Police said Md. Samung working for IMA Travels (Dimapur to Imphal) offered to arrange it on payment basis. On paying Rs 500 per person, the accused arranged fake report within an hour, police said.
Police said as per the statement of the accused, he used to collect Aadhar card and money from passengers, and would then go to Lahorijan, Assam, and after paying commission to Testing Centre staff stationed there arranged fake COVID-19 test report without travelers being tested physically.
Police further said this is being investigated and all individuals involved are being thoroughly examined.
