ZSUN condemns Oting massacre

Nagaland News

Dimapur, December 9: The Zeliang Students Union Nagaland has expressed anguish at the brutal massacre of civilians at Oting Village and Mon Town on December 4 and 5 by Indian armed forces.
“We condemn the most despicable action of the Indian security personnel who targeted the innocent civilians in the most unprofessional manner resulting in the brutal killings of more than a dozen human lives. We also condemn the political leaders, some media houses, individuals and organisations who resorted to twisting the incident in favour of the armed forces without ascertaining the actual facts from the ground,” it stated in a press release.
It appealed to both the Central and State Government to ensure speedy justice to the victims.
“AFSPA has done more damage than good to the image of the Indian armed forces and is a complete failure to control the so called insurgent movements in the Northeast, as can be witnessed till today on how conflicts remained unresolved in the region. It has in fact, alienated the people of the region from joining the mainstream and has been a factor for many affected youths to join the opposing forces,” it added.
The Union demanded immediate removal of AFSPA.
