Nagaland News

Dimapur, December 13: The two-day 7th general conference of Zeliang Officers’ Association Nagaland (ZOAN) concluded on December 11 at JTWWO hall, Jalukie town with Advisor to Water Resources, Namri Nchang and Leader of NPF Legislature Party, TR Zeliang as the special invitees.
Addressing the gathering, Namri Nchang said the officers are the torch bearers of the society and urged them to continue being prudent and pragmatic. He asked the officers present to maintain the spirit of oneness and take steps towards preserving and promoting their own mother tongue.
Namri urged them to work with dedication to bring back the past glory of the Zeliang community.
TR Zeliang encouraged the officers to work collectively in order to take the community forward, and also stated that each one of them should strive hard to be a good ambassador to the world.
Zeliang said it is imperative for the younger generation to be inspired and have role models in their life, and it is the responsibility of the officers to be role models and shape the future of the students. Further, he suggested half yearly or yearly orientation programme for the students so that they will be inspired by their presence and presentation.
Zeliang said that it should be the prerogative of the officers to sensitise the people about the governmental programmes, especially the communitised programmes of the government which will benefit the people in the rural areas.
He further made two suggestions for the development of the villages and the people: the serving and retired ZOAN officers should adopt one village primary school; the retired officers who are still capable of working should form an ex-officers’ association for good coordination between the serving and retired officers.
Speaking on politics and clean election, Zeliang said the vicious cycle of ‘money for vote’ or ‘vote for money’ can be broken/eradicated only through a collective effort and if the officers give wise and correct advice/guidance to the people.
Reports were presented by general secretary & treasurer of ZOAN, all units of ZOAN and all committees & sub-committees of ZOAN; followed by discussion hours, adoption of resolutions and installation of new team.
