Wokha, November 6: Advisor for Youth Resources & Sports, Zale Neikha graced the ‘Outstation Artists Nite’ marking the second evening of the Tokhu Emong cum Mini Hornbill Festival under the aegis of Lotha Hoho at Wokha local ground.
Addressing the gathering, Neikha while expressing that music has always been an integral part of human life in all forms of culture since the primeval times of history, said that music as an art is widely recognised, accepted and appreciated worldwide, irrespective of language barriers.
On the same note, he said since time immemorial, music has always been part and parcel of the naga culture and traditions.
“Music is in our blood and we are second to none in this art,” Neikha said while justifying that the oral traditions of our past have been kept alive through the medium of folk tales and songs.
Indeed, Naga folk songs are both romantic and historical, he said
Lauding that in the recent schools have introduced music as a curriculum, the Advisor said state government initiated Music Task Force so as to encourage Musicians to take up music as a profession rather than just a hobby.
Nagaland is one of the first states in India to have introduced Music as an industry and also to generate employment, he said while urging the young budding musicians to stay focused and carry forward their dreams of becoming professional musicians with utmost sincerity.
The Advisor also opined that a blend of folk songs with western music can be a new genre that can promote and popularize Naga culture, at the same time earn fame and glory – for, in Music, there is nothing to lose; rather it has plenty to offer.
Meanwhile, Neikha said “Wokha district is popularly known to the outside world for ‘Doyang River and Amur Falcons’ and more interestingly, the truth is Lothas are admirable for their sincerity, dedication and hard work,” he said.
Extending warm Tokhu Emong greetings, Neikha hoped that the festival which is associated with ‘harvesting of crops’ would foster about brotherhood, forgiveness and oneness among the Lothas in particular and Nagas in general.
