Tuensang observes World Breastfeeding Week

Dimapur, August 16: Along with rest of the country, Tuensang observed World Breastfeeding Week from August 10 to 16. Activities were carried out in every health units under Tuensang district with an aim ‘to support breast feeding for a healthier planet’.
In Tonglongsor village, Community Health Officer (CHO) Tonglongsor, Longtila M Sangtam took initiative on creating awareness to community on the importance of breastfeeding. She encouraged mothers for early initiation of breastfeeding and to give the first breast milk that is Colostrum as it contains antibodies to protect the newborn against disease. She also advised the mothers to do exclusive breastfeeding till 6 months of age for improving nutrition and building up natural immunity.
The mothers were also encouraged on complementary feeding after 6 months, as breast alone is not sufficient to meet the needs of the body.
The programme was held at Tonglongsor Sub-Centre Health and Wellness Centre (H&WC) under Chare block on August 16. The programme was attended by pregnant woman, lactating mothers, anganwadi workers and ASHAs. (Page News Service)
