Dimapur, September 12: The NPF (Shurho) has asked the Government of Nagaland to cancel the permission granted to the NPF (Rio) to hold the general convention on September 20 at Dimapur in light of the High Court order passed on September 11.

In a letter to the State Chief Secretary, Commissioner Nagaland, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, Commissioner of Police, Dimapur and Neiphiu Rio, president of NPF (Rio), the secretary general, NPF (Shurho) and MP Rajya Sabha, KG Kenye (on behalf of Shurhozelie Liezietsu, President NPF) referred to the High Court order to both parties to maintain status quo as one date. Kenye explained that this would mean that the NPF is headed by Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu as its president.

"This would further mean that any claim to the contrary cannot be countenanced by any authority acting in terms of the provisions of the Representation of Peoples Act 1951 or the rule framed there under," interpreted Kenye.

According to Kenye, the order of the High court is clean and unambiguous. "At the same time, the provision of law with regard to the recognition of the political party and/or other issues relating threto, including splits is clear. This is the scope and intent of the order of the Status Quo issued by the Hon'ble High Court," he said.

The MP Rajya Sabha hoped that the authorities concerned would comply with the order issued by the High Court by cancelling the permission granted to Neiphiu Rio to hold the general convention on September 20 at Dimapur.  (Page News Service)
