Kohima, August 12: Situation remains uncertain as the rival NPF camps are heading for a confrontation over the claim of rights of "Cock symbol"

The two Naga People's Front (NPF) factions have gone beyond mudslinging and appears poised for confrontation to claim legitimacy over the cock symbol. Deadline ends for both the camps to vacate their offices on August 13.

Security is on high alert to thwart any incident.

Today around 200 NPF youths from 10 Northern Angami-1 Assembly Constituency marched to rival NPF Central Office at Hotel Legacy at Bavayu Colony and served an ultimatum to leave the area by August 13 or face consequences. The rival NPF led by its interim president Neiphiu Rio has opened office at Hotel Legacy.

The rebel NPF has also served a deadline of August 13 for rival NPF President, Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu to leave the Central Office at PR Hill.

But according to political pundits, Liezietsu still holds the trump card, though his opponents say he is manipulating the party constitution to remain in chair ignoring the voice of the majority.

The rebel camp said in a democratic country majority rules, but the mainstream NPF argued that it has to go by the rules and constitution of the party.

"This ultimatum is served to the so-called NPF office at Hotel Legacy at Bavayu to close down the office and remove all NPF flags on or before 13th August 2017. Failure to comply with this ultimatum will invite repercussion of extreme degree and for which Shri. Neiphiu Rio will be held solely responsible," the ultimatum stated.

The ultimatum was jointly signed by NPF Youth Wing President, Viliehou Suokhrie and Vice President Pfuliekhrie Kerestu of 10 Northern Angami-1 Constituency.

The copy of the ultimatum was also served to "Shri. Neiphiu Rio's illegal NPF office at Hotel Legacy", Chairman, Kohima Village Council and Chairman, Bayavu Panchayat for necessary information.

The ultimatum further stated that it has come to their notice that an office of NPF has been inaugurated at Hotel Legacy which was unauthorised and illegal by so-called interim president Rio on August 10 which falls under the jurisdiction of 10-Northern Angami-1constitituency.

"And whereas NPF has only one president, Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu who was duly elected in the General Convention on 26th November 2014and the same was reaffirmed on 30th April 2015 and there is no other president, interim or otherwise," the ultimatum stated.

It further said the party has its legitimate and functional headquarters in the state capital, below Hotel Japfu at Sokriezie and there is no other authorised NPF office at Kohima except Division and AC unit offices.

"And whereas the action of Shri. Neiphiu Rio and his supporters opening an illegal NPF office under out jurisdiction is a direct challenge to our authority which is highly provocative and invite direct confrontation," the ultimatum added.

Meanwhile, the four day dharna outside the Raj Bhavan by NPF Youth Wing has entered the second day demanding recalling of Governor P B Acharya for his alleged unconstitutional performance and dismissing Liezietsu's government.

The NPF Kohima Division Youth Wing has also extended fullest support to the ultimatum served against Neiphiu Rio's "illegal so-called NPF office" at Hotel Legacy at Bayavu Colony by the Youth Wing of the 10th Northern Angami-1 A/C on August 12.

In the press release, the NPF Youth Wing, Kohima Division also strongly resented establishment of such illegal office under its jurisdiction, and stated that it shall fight tooth and nail if any such illegal office is set up.

The Youth Wing also warned against any unauthorized person hoisting party flags illegally without the permission from the party authority.

The NPF, Kohima Division Youth Wing also extended its fullest support to the leadership of NPF President, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu, who, it said, is the only legal and mandated President of the NPF party. (Page News Service)
