Dimapur, August 11: The indefinite bandh called by Nagaland Pulp & Paper Company Ltd. (NPPCL) Workers Union (WU) on National Highway 61 (Amguri Road) began Friday from 5 am onwards.

The bandh was called after the union's demands were not fulfilled by the concerned authorities. The demands are revival of NPPCL, release of 9 months pending salary; gratuity and terminal benefits to deceased and superannuated employees, implementation of 2007 pay-scale, etc.

The union said they had submitted a memorandum to Hindustan Paper Corporation (HBC) Chairman cum Managing Director on July 26 last seeking implementation of their demands by August 10, failing which the union would resort to agitation.

The bandh is likely to affect Mokokchung and other neighbouring district.
