Intl Day for Girl Child observed in Longleng

Dimapur, October 11: Along with the rest of the world, International Day for Girl Child was observed by the people of Longleng district at local football ground today under the theme "Daughters of New India". The program was organized by the District Task Force (DTF, BBBBP)

Deputy Commissioner & Chairman DTF, BBBBP Longleng, Y. Denngan Avennoho Phom in his keynote address informed that many schemes were introduced by the Prime Minister of India for empowerment of women in the country and added that BBBBP was the brainchild of the PM. Asserting that man and woman are creation of the Almighty God and both are equal before the creator, the DC said that no one should discriminate girl child or deprive her rights in the civilized Christian world.

Pointing out that family is the first institution of learning, he appealed to all the parents to treat their children of both gender equally in all walks of life.

The DC cautioned that the district administration will not tolerate discrimination against women in the district and assured that all schemes for development of women and child will be utilized judiciously. He also said that girls are doing much better in academic and are also excellent in other fields, and these indicates the importance of women to actively participate in all social activities along with men.    

Principal BHSS Longleng, Henow spoke on the topic "Daughters of New India". She urged women to understand that the day is observed to deliver justice and freedom to women. 

The Deputy Commissioner, Principal BHSS, CDPO Longleng, DPRO Longleng and CDPO Tamlu have been declared as the Ambassador for Girl Child. The ambassadors have adopted one orphan girl child each from the Phom Lempong School. The ambassador for the girl child revolves around underprivileged girls who are unable to avail quality education. They will contribute towards their education and give the girl child a chance to live a better life in the society.
