Dimapur, September 12: The PWD (R&B) Department today launched and distributed 24 nos of Backhoe Loaders to PWD (R&B) Division in the state.

In a brief function held at Agri Expo, Dimapur, Minister for PWD (R&B), Dr Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire handed over the keys to the division officers.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kire said that though the public expects everything from the Department, it cannot do, but in a small way it can take up the works.

The Minister was also seen annoyed by the 'negativity' shown by the public towards the R&B Department in regards to bad road conditions and said, "Anything that goes wrong, we blame the department or government, but never say I have may part to play."

"We Nagas should also think what we can do for the people," he said.

Citing examples of his recent visit to check the road conditions, Dr Kire said he was surprised to see young people trying to plant trees on the road, which shows how negative people are.

On the distribution of new Backhoe Loaders to the sub-divisions, the Minister expected them to perform well and told them not to misuse the equipments provided to them.

He also told them not to plan huge things, but just do small things.

On the occasion, he also asked the officers to provide him the list of labourers in all the sub-divisions.

He said priority would be given to Dimapur and Kohima, but the department would also take care of the district headquarters.

He also told the department officials not to give people the reason to plant trees on the roads.

In his technical report, Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B), Er Krosu Rhetso stated that 24 Backhoe Loaders have been procured at the cost of Rs 7.56 crores.

He said the department has been facing many problems of landslides/subsidence etc especially during the monsoon season leading to road blockage for a longer period of time due to non-availability of machineries at the disposition of the site Engineers.

He expected the Executive Engineers to put in their best efforts to judiciously utilize the machine for departmental works during emergencies and even during working season.
