Dimapur, March 17: Food and Civil Supplies Department, Government of Nagaland in partnership with Centre for Health Research and Innovation (CHRI) and supported by National Stock Exchange Foundation organized a sensitization training on Rice Fortification for District Officials of Department of Food & Civil Supplies Department, Government of Nagaland on March 15 at Conference Hall, Directorate of FCS, Dimapur, Nagaland.
The program was chaired by Dr. Kapenlo Thong, Deputy Director, Nodal Officer for Rice fortification, Food & Civil Supplies Department and welcome note was delivered by V. Lovitoly Sema, Director FCS.
The director highlighted the Department’s plan as per the directive of the Ministry of Food and Public Distribution, GOI the regular rice distributed through PDS under the aspirational district of Kiphire will be replaced with Fortified Rice by April 2022 and encouraged the district officers to equip themselves with the knowledge of Rice Fortification as they will have to educate the people in their own districts to bust the myths and misinformation around fortified rice.
The sessions by the resource person, Surbhi Dhawan, Project Lead (Fortification) CHRI, New Delhi covered essential areas of Rice fortification like Introduction to Rice Fortification, Nutritional landscape – India and Nagaland’s scenario, technology behind fortification, Supply Chain of Nagaland, myth busting, demonstrations on blending efficiency test, Quality assurance, Quality Control, best practices on Fortified Rice, consumer awareness and screening of videos on fortification. IEC materials specially focused on Fair Price Shops in Nagamese and English – the primary point where the Fortified Rice will be distributed were also distributed to the six priority districts.
