Pre-fire season workshop held at Wokha

Dimapur, May 2: The Department of Forest organized a one-day workshop on pre-fire season awareness for co-ordination among line departments, village, colony councils and NGOs on May 1 at Forest Colony Community Hall, Wokha with Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS as the guest of honour.
Addressing during the workshop, the DC highlighted on the structure of disaster management authority. He said if incident are reported on time by village disaster management authority and village disaster core committee response time will be lowered he further stressed on the importance of availability of resources and instruments to be used during disaster, “if we don’t provide them those basic necessity how are we going to expect them to function efficiently.”
Commenting on the importance of conserving Mt. Tiyi Forest, he said community participation is very important for success of any project and appealed to the villagers and colonies to come forward and regulate laws and legislations for preserving local natural resources.
SP Wokha, Bharat Markad, IPS urged all concerned citizens to preserve the forest. Giving special emphasis on Mt. Tiyi he assured the Department of Forest to extend all possible assistance as and when required by the department.
Key note address was delivered by DFO, Wokha Zuthunglo Patton, IFS, role of forest fire – impact and responsibilities was presented by B.O Changpang.
