Dimapur, May 4: The BJP Nagaland has admitted that the appointment of political party leaders in the rank of Cabinet and Minister of State by the PDA Government was a “well-thought strategy” to strengthen the alliance and ensure smooth functioning of the Government.
Opposition parties in the State, the NPF and Congress, had earlier claimed that the appointment of party leaders by the PDA Government was with an eye to keep the shaky PDA Government from falling.
“These appointments are not only in the spirit of coalition but a well-thought strategy to strengthen the Alliance and ensure smooth functioning of the Government,” said the State BJP in a release.
The BJP stated that elections are simply not won by legislators alone but require the active support and coordination of the party and its cadres. “Referring to senior political party members as “mere” party leaders exposes the shallow mindedness and ignorance of party politics and governance in a multi-party democracy,” it alleged.
Stating that the PDA has promised a host of welfare policies and programmes before the elections through its Common Minimum Programme, the State BJP claimed that the appointment of party leaders and cadres will ensure that the announced policies and commitments are effectively fulfilled in coordination with the Government at the Centre.
The BJP also assured that these appointments would, in the long run, not be a burden to the State’s exchequer but “a booster to accelerate development and open windows for funds to pour into the state with collective effort.” It requested the people not to jump the gun but to give some time to the Government to revitalize the State’s economy.
Appreciating chief minister Neiphiu Rio for appointment of BJP senior party leaders as members of PDA, the release also congratulated leaders from other political parties under PDA on their becoming part of the Government. (Page News Service)
