Dear Madam,

This refers to Tanzeel Hassan's article, "No country for girls" (NP, Features, 1 September 2017). India will have to adopt polyandry if female foeticide and infanticide continue unabated. Indeed, this message which is nothing but the truth needs to be broadcast loud and clear. Such alarm can touch a raw nerve of patriarchal mindset and gets in on the act of checking girl foeticide and infanticide. It is a fact that India's child sex ratio (0-6 years) came down from 945 girls for 1000 boys in 1991 to 927 in 2001 and slipped further downward to 914 in 2011 census. It shows that there will be only 9 suitable girls for 10 suitable boys when they attain marriageable age! So, already things have come to such a pass that 1 boy out of 10 will not get his life partner.
