KOHIMA, JUNE 3: General Manager of National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), BD Jangae was arrested on Wednesday by Mokokchung police for his alleged involvement in corruption. He is presently undergoing intensive interrogation.
Jangae was arrested after a video of him allegedly demanding cuts from unidentified person in a room went viral in social media.
A source said police swung into action and arrested the official after a case was filed in a police station in Mokokchung. He was heard in the video demanding 1% commission from the contractor and refusing to accept 0.5%.
Investigations are underway and authorities do not want to disclose further on the matter, but a senior police official said the accused was arrested on Wednesday and interrogations are underway.
Jangade was with the NHIDCL on deputation but the NHIDCL has immediately repatriated him to his party organization, Border Roads Organization (BRO).
Of late NHIDCL has been under the scanner of public for non-completion of roads on time in the State.
One instance is the 4-lane National Highway between Kohima and Dimapur, which could not be completed within the stipulated time.
The State Government has been meeting the NHIDCL and contractors from time to time for early completion of roads in the State. (Page News Service)
