IEC awareness campaign in Mon

Dimapur, December 10: Turning Point Organisation, which was empanelled by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Mon Division as Implementing Support Agency (ISA) to facilitate constitution of Gram Panchayat, carried out information, education and communication (IEC) awareness campaign as JJM Support Activity from November 30 in 30 villages under Mon District.
During the course of the campaign with the village council, WATSAN committee, GBs, ASHA and anganwadi workers, church bodies, students etc., it was highlighted that in order to implement JJM in their villages for water supply in adequate quantity on regular and sustainable basis and also to provide piped connection to anganwadi centres, schools, health centres and community hall, the villagers should actively participate in implementation of JJM schemes and contribute 5% in the form of labour/kind/cash which is pre-requisite for implementation of JJM schemes, to have at least five women representative in WATSAN committee for water quality monitoring and surveillance and also to levy water user fee/charge for sustainable Operation & Maintenance of the scheme in future and also reiterated that every new household constructed should have its own latrine and open defecation to be totally prohibited in the village and every household should manage grey water from kitchen and toilet for safe disposal and not to allow it to remain stagnant, which is hazardous and unhealthy.
ISA also impressed upon the villagers to pass resolutions to totally ban single-use plastic, littering and burning of plastic in the village.
