Girl Child Day celebrated in Mon District

Dimapur, September 19: Mon District Administration in collaboration with Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) – District Level Centre for Women (DLCW) celebrated Girl Child Day at Police Unit School, Mon on September 18 under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Campaign. The programme was chaired by Neijoi Konyak, District Coordinator, MSK. A total of 50 students participated in the Girl Child Day celebrations.
T Matsung Ao, Administrator of Police Unit School gave an introduction on behalf of the school. He briefly highlighted the importance of Girl Child Day to the students.
Ngepshom Konyak, Women Welfare Officer, MSK Mon spoke on the importance of Girl Child. If a Girl Child is educated she can play a major role in the society. She emphasized on equal treatment for both boys and girls and the importance of avoiding gender bias.
She encouraged the students to use their rights in their family and school as development begins from these two places. She further encouraged the girl students not to be shy and timid but rather to be more active and participate in a wide range of activities.
