On observation of World Environment Day

Dear Madam, Just a day before, people and various organizations celebrated World Environment Day and took pledge to protect the environment. However, in reality people tend to forget their pledge and go on cutting trees randomly and pollute the environment with machineries and vehicles emissions. Although tree plantation is taken as mass drive on World Environment Day, how many people and NGOs take care of the saplings planted on that day. If those saplings were taken care of, there would have been millions of trees by now in the state....

More people-friendly trains should be run

Dear Madam, When whole of the precious money time and energy get invested upon "Grand" temples, "Gigantic" statues, "sky-kissing" flags, glittering extravagant mansions, spectacle of mass yoga , Hindi imposition and luxurious amenities for the rich; it is most natural that basic necessities of common citizens, improvement and maintenance of social/national infrastructure (through proper utilisation of human resources by mass recruitment) and security protocols would go for a toss! In this disgusting perspective, there lies hardly any surprise when hundreds of lives get abruptly lost in train accidents! By extricating...

On power cuts and load-sheddings

Dear Madam, The Nagaland Power Department’s excuse for load-shedding in the state does not give full explanation of the power-cuts which people face throughout the year. It is understood that power consumption during the Summer months is more, but load-shedding and frequent power cuts are experienced throughout the year. Various reasons are given for load-shedding on different occasions, but ultimately the public suffers even after paying the power bills. Temsu, Dimapur...

More greenery needed in scorching Dimapur

Dear Madam, With soaring temperatures in recent years, it's becoming evident that Dimapur's green cover is not sufficient to mitigate the heat. Trees not only provide shade and cool the air, but also help reduce air pollution and contribute to the conservation of local biodiversity. Our historical bond with nature, which is an integral part of our Naga culture, is under threat. A more aggressive tree-planting initiative is needed. Moreover, we must enforce regulations preventing unnecessary felling of trees. Amento, Dimapur...

Restore cancelled trains

Dear Madam, Some trains from Dimapur Railway Station was cancelled during the Covid pandemic, especially Brahmaputra Mail, which is yet to be restored. While the time of Nagaland Express has been changed, causing much inconveniences to the railway commuters, the present timing BG Express is also not proper as it takes almost 7 hours to reach Guwahati from Dimapur. The NF Railways must look into this and restore the trains to their original timings in the larger interest of railway passengers. Santosh, Dimapur...

On wires along Dimapur flyover

Dear Madam, The issue of dangling wires along the sides of the Dimapur flyover are a cause for concern for pedestrians who use the walkways along the flyover. As someone who frequently walks along the flyover, I have noticed that the wires hang low and are within reach of anyone walking by. The sight of the wires dangling haphazardly is an eyesore and takes away from the overall aesthetic of the area. I urge the concerned authorities to take immediate action to address this issue. Perhaps the wires can be...

On use of AI

Dear Madam, Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become important in many works, but people are yet to understand its dangers. AI has been used in generating photos and have confused people as it look 100% genuine, while in reality it was a fake. Whether it was the photos of Donald Trump or the blast outside Pentagon, it was all AI work, which was later debunked. Mathew, Dimapur...
