8th Kohima District volleyball tournament begins

Kohima, November 10: Altogether 18 teams, 9 each of men and women, are vying for the coveted trophy in the 3-day long 8th Kohima District Open Volleyball Tournament organized by Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA) at Kohima Local Ground.

Director of Youth Resources & Sports, Akumla Chuba declared the tournament open as special guest of the inaugural function held this morning. The tourney will conclude on November 12.
Addressing the players and sports lovers, the YRS Director congratulated KDVA for promoting the discipline of volleyball and inculcating the spirit of sportsmanship amongst the youth.
“Volleyball is definitely a very popular sport. We have also seen many budding talents. With practice and training, I am sure that our state can produce not only national but international level players as well. We just need to be focused and determined,” she said.
She maintained that apart from health benefits, sport is crucial for all round development of an individual.
“This is one of the reasons why we must promote sports, be it in our curriculum or lifestyle,” Chuba said.
KDVA president Visasielie Suohu delivered the welcome address while Nouvilie Rülho administered the oath to the participating teams.
The champions of the men’s category will receive Rs. 50,000 and runners-up Rs. 25,000 while losing semi finalists will get Rs. 5000 each.
In the women’s category, the champion will get Rs 30,000 and runners Rs. 15,000 while losing semi finalist will get Rs. 5000 each.
Individual awards of Rs 2000 will be given to Best Setter and Best Spiker in both the categories while Best Coach award of Rs. 2000 will be for men’s category.

Meanwhile, KDVA has fixed Rs 30 per head as entry tickets for spectators from November 11. (Page News Service)
